Remote start-Factory Fob

I got remote start installed two weeks ago. Guy installed a Compustar. Once installed he told me that he couldn't use the factory remote on a 2006 because the door locks are still radio and not computer controlled.

The remote is terrible. Has anyone installed a remote start that can use the factory FOB on a 4th gen? Thanks.

I went through old posts and found this:

"I use the factory remote to start the car using two lock commands in quick sequence (within 3 sec). As you said, once you start the car the remote is inhibited.

However, I have discovered that you can still unlock the car in the several second pause between the two lock commands and the actual car's starting. In this way the car can be unlocked after remote starting if you wish - either the driver's door or all doors. "

Not sure if that is true.

I had a compustar remote starter installed a little more than a year ago. Installer told me that I HAD to have an alarm accessory as well for it to work. Only cost $150 more, but whatever. I hate it. I had them program it so the goddamn horn doesn't honk everytime I lock/unlock the doors, it still does from time to time.

I got a 2way pager model, the fob is starting to act up (doesn't start like it use to....... I changed the battery and everything). I've just about had it with this model.

Maybe gshadow325 can help??

Thanks Cookie. I can tell you that i don't have an alarm or a honk when I lock or unlock but i'm very unhappy with it. Remote start is perfect but getting it to unlock the door is dodgy and to unlock all the doors is almost impossible.

He also said that opening the trunk was impossible. Does it work for you?

After the installation, I never touched the factory fob again. I never really used it to open the rear window either so I can't comment on that.

My lock/unlock function works perfectly except that when I hit the button once (on the aftermarket fob), all doors unlock unlike the factory which requires 2 pushes on the button to unlock all doors. That's annoying also to me. Urrghh. I also miss the "beep" when locking/unlocking the doors. The "honking" of the horn is very nedneck to me. Reminds me of my goddamn Jeep. Hated that thing.

Kinda light in the wallet now, but I don't see myself sticking with this.

Did you read through the installation and owner's manuals. Most remote start systems have programmable options. I have one of the DEI variants (Viper) and I programmed my locks to unlock all doors with a single pulse. I originally had it set up like the factory fob, but ended up just wanting to hit the fob button once. Long story short, most of these are programmable options and the manuals will tell you exactly how to do it.

As far as the factory fob... toss it in the junk drawer. The range on it is terrible. You might as well start it with the key if you're going to limit yourself to the factory fob range.

its not a single pulse on the aftermarket systems. it is driver door priority unlock, to unlock all the doors it needs a DOUBLE pulse to unlock everything.

Let me correct my terminology. The pulses are as stated above, but you can program the fob to give a DOUBLE pulse when pressed once. That is how mine is set up as I didn't always get the result I wanted when I pressed the aftermarket fob multiple times.
