Remote Start Install Help

I'm installing a Code Alarm system in my 01 4Runner. I found a black wire in the wiring harness right above the glove box (after it is removed). I thought this was the tach wire. Steady .1 V AC at idle and goes up with throttle. However the remote start system is not picking up the signal. Is this not the tach wire. Any help would be great thanks!

I've searched quite a bit, this site and others. Thanks, but I'm looking for the wire in the cab so I don't have to drill a hole through the fire wall. I can't find a grommet or anything to bring the wire through the fire wall.

When my 4runner had remote start (before I owned it) they tapped into that on the Diagnostic plug in the engine bay.

The firewall grommet is on the drivers side between the master cylinder and the fender. I tapped the Tac wire at the diagnostic port in the engine bay, I forgot the color however.

Thanks for all the input. If you get a chance to post that diagram i'd really appreciate it. I was about to pull the gauge cluster out but ran out of daylight and decided to wait until tomorrow. I may pull it out in the morning and have a look, but a diagram never helps.

Thanks. I'll look in the morning. I also need to run the siren wire and hood pin switch wire. I was going to wait to decide how to run the wires. Hopefully, I'll be able to access it quickly and run those wires.

I just finished installing one on my wife's runner last week. I hunted around a bit inside for the tach wire and finally gave up and just ran it through the grommet under the brake master cylinder then hooked it to the diagnostic plug, it's the black wire in there.

OK, I'll probably just do that as well then. I didn't see that hole but I'll look right now. You didn't by any chance hook up the remote to run the rear window too, did you?
