Remote Start install myself or?

Sorry, I searched and I couldn't find the details.

I want to add remote start to my 06 sr5. I know I can add it to the factory key fab but the local shop was worthless and wanted $500 for remote start only. I can't seem to find a write up on self install. Question one, anyone have a parts list or what the recommend? Question two, I can do mechanical stuff and electrical stuff, but I have never installed a alarm or remote start myself. Is it a can of worms and avoid it or am I going to laugh how easy it is?

I looked into the price on this recently at a Best Buy and it was about 500, but had alarm too, I think. They said that their car radio install specialist weren't "trained" on this yet and that there was some ridiculously long sounding training period they had to go through to be able to do it. I was under the impression that it CAN be complicated. But, then again, they have to be able to do all kinds of cars. Let me know how it goes. I'd like to do this to my 07 too. Good luck!

I installed the alarm/remote start on my 4th gen back in '08 but that is what I did back then. It wasn't really that complicated compared to some but you really need to understand what wire does what and the consequences if you were to mess it up. Get familiar with your DVOM and test twice before you tap or hook anything up. I don't have any pics of my install but I found a pictorial on a 2010 tacoma. Not exact but it will give you an idea of what is involved. I recommend visiting the12volt.com for, possibly, more info.
