Remote Start Which One?

So I lost my keys and had to have one made. I need a key fob and was going to get a remotestart instead. I just am not educated on which ones are good.

There are a ton of them on the market. I would visit a few local shops, see wht they install and why. From there choose a dealer you are comfortable with and will be there for future service if something goes wrong.

I think it is more the install than the brand. I have a crimestopper for years and has worked without any issues

I have the Viper two way system. I love it, it tells me if the truck is locked, started, alarm going off, etc all on the key fob. It is listed as having a 1 mile range but it is less than that. It is far, but by no means a mile. I would still recommend it.

I was sitting in class one time and my key fob started beeping. I looked at it and it said the shock sensor had been activated. I run to my truck to make sure it hasn't been hit or anything. It is a great system for sure, not cheap though.

I also have the viper two way,it has a nice lcd i paid $250 online and $100 for install. the only thing i don't like is if you drop the remote it brakes easily.

There is a company called commando (I think) that sells alarms. I've been out of the game for a while now, but used to be an installer. These alarms were exactly the same as the vipers of the past (down to pinouts and wire harnesses IIRC) but for a fraction on the price. I assume they are still out there and still are re-branded vipers. I would definitely look into them if you have someone to install.

If you like the viper systems, I highly recommend going to the best buy website and looking at the models you're most interested with. There's a ton of user rated reviews for all of them and it gave me a good idea of the pro's/con's with each model.

I really need to do this for this winter. I have to let the 4Runner run a few minutes in the mornings anyway just so I can get the ice melted off the windshield whilst I clear the snow from the windows.

depends on if you just want just a remote starter or one that is also an alarm, defroster activation, interior light, remote trunk opener, etc. ive used a few brands over the years the last 2 were avital, this is one i use in the 4r now , but i didnt pay anything near that price, ebay has them cheaper. im happy with it. viper is another good one. So did a little research last night. What is the "g key" some of the makers offer for our 4th Gens? I'm guessing that has to do with the chip that is in our keys. You must have to have some sort of over ride put into place so that you can still start the car without the key actually in the ignition. All that I want is from 20 feet away be able to start the engine whilst I put on my snow boots & gaiters. I don't need an alarm as it already has one. Hopefully the antenna still works even if there is 3 feet of snow over it! Normally though after a night of snow it looks like this. But for the record that's a 2nd story house in the back ground and those snow poles are 12 feet. This was Feb 2011.
