Im looking to put an alarm system into my 4runner and I thought I would gop the extra mile and get a remote start. I was just wondering what brand or model I should be looking at. Will any remote start work or shopuld I be looking at something specific. I have a 1992 6cyl. power everything.

I just installed a python 990 on my 04, so far i love it. It does everything and the distance is amazing. Overall i spent about 250, 150 new on ebay and 100 to install

Compustar, I just put the pro 900 alarm and remote start on my rig and it is awesome. Ask around, you will find that compustar is top of the line. Cost me a little under $700 out the door.

The main things you need to decide is if you want an alarm too and how much of a range you want.

ya I want an alarm too and range is crucial but its nice to have some distance.

Is there a remote start-only (w/no security system) for say '08 Limiteds?

This is the only feature that I truly miss from my last ride (a GM), certainly in the winter.

but will any brand or model fit with my 4runner is my question.
Basically anything aftermarket should work, if your a do it your self kinda guy i would recommend buying an alarm on ebay and installing yourself

Yeah, you just have to buy the right modules to get them to work. I don't know which one is right though, Tarheeltip probably knows.

ok so where can I find out what modules im going to need

oh amd on a side note what website can I find those LED lights I lost the site after I bought a few off of it.

You'll just need to get an XK05 made by directed electronics... you and even search for an ASXK05 which is the same thing just made by an Audiovox owned company before Directed purchased that company...

It's an immobolizer bypass and it's all you will need. It will work on 03-09 models but IDK what model yours is. You could also get a PKALL which will work 99-09.

As a reference, www.bypasskit.com is the site where you can check out what parts you'll need for almost any car.

ok cool, i think im going down to LA next weekend to go shopping maybe i can find a remote start down there pretty cheap. My friend bought his audio system down there are saved almost $300 down there.

haha im in my history of rock class right now, this class is boring!!!!!!

I have a clifford 50.5x (same as viper 5901) It has a kickass range through multiple bldgs and confirms back to the remote. bought it for 235 at Guru Electronics in San Jose, Ca. Installed myself (was my previous 'career")
It boots up my pioneer avic f-900bt (horribly slow to boot up) during remote start so its ready to display the back up camera when i pull out!
