How can I tell if my 2001 4Runner SR5 has remote start and how to use it?

does it have a aftermarket alarm? usually its 2 or 3 presses of lock/utility type button on the remote. Varies from manufacture do you see a module anywhere for it?

Is there an antenna stuck to your windshield usually right behind the rear view mirror?

if you dont have it, go get it installed. best mod i have on mine.

but if your getting it installed you might as well get the whole alarm system with it. less remotes on your key chain and it can never hurt to have a better alarm

Get a Viper 5901 w/ remote start if you plan to purchase one. Super useful on these hot days especially lately with the high temp weather we're having here in SoCal. Feels good to get into my T4R with the A/C blastin'.

ive seen a few cars with the antenna on the front windshield looks really tacky i put mine on the back quarter glass

It's also fun to mess with people... haha.

Nowadays in southern california its great to leave the AC or something on to cool it down before you enter... or in snowy or cold climates its great just to warm up the engine.

Elton, when I got the car from my brother he had had this installed already and it has the antenna on the front windshield, it is tacky as hell, but the nice thing is that its placement allows it to pick up the handheld remote signal from a good distance. and messing with people is fun, as im one of those who watches people to make sure they dont ding my car with their doors. get too close and i start her up or set off the alarm which is wired to the locomotive horn.
