Remote Starter

I think I have searched and searched and have yet to find the answer to my question. I have a 2004 Limited 4Runner. On the drivers side of the car, under the steering wheel there is a bright orange sign that indicates where the on/off switch is. There is also a hand book that came with the car that describes it, etc. I bought the vehcile used. A child was playing with my keys the other day and I went outside and the car was running. I CAN NOT figure out how she did it or how to remote start the vehicle with my remote. I have the standard three button remote for the vehicle. the lock, unlock, and the button for the back window. I also have the panic button on the underside. If anyone has any idea how to remote start the vehicle, I would great appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!!!

Try pressing and holding the Lock and Unlock buttons at the same time. That's how my old Remote Start worked. Pressing these 2 buttons together will start the car, and also shut the engine off if it's running. Good Luck!

I also saw somewhere else where it said to press the lock button three consecutive times. That, too, did not work. Any other help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks for the replys. I looked online for a picture of my remote. But it is the stock remote. Black "Lock" on the top, "Unlock" second and then the picture of the back window on the bottom. There is a red panic button on the back. But it is a stock remote. Any other suggestions?

I called the local Toyota dealership today and even they had no idea. He said that they don't show a stock add on Remote starter on the 2004 Limited 4Runner. In the paperwork that is with my manual for the car, there is information about the exact remote starter. I'm not sure if that would help in figuring out how to make it work via my remote. But it is an audiovox.

Did you try pressing and holding the unlock button? Are you sure there isn't a separate remote for the remote starter? I though the factory key fobs can't be programmed for things like that.

What is the number on the back of the remote? Should be a couple numbers there.

I didn't think my key fob would work. I had never really needed the remote starter so I didn't worry about it. However, the other day, some sequence of buttons on that remote, remotely started the vehicle. I went outside to leave, keys in hand, and the car was running. So there has to be some way to make it work.

Are you sure that's not :
HYQ instead of 'HYO' at the beginning of your FCC code?

So wuzzup?? is there a way to remote start ur 4runner?? or not...

cuz i tried everything u guys said but none of them worked for my 4runner

I was thinking of getting a remote start system for my car.
maybe a viper one, if there isn't a way to start ur car with the stock fob...

i got a 05' 4runner

let me know if you can figure out how to start the car with the stock fob.

thanks much

Silla, try this, lock unlock lock. It may be a double lock. As in lock lock. You can add remote start to any vehicle with oem keyfobs. I went with a Avital 4300 security/remote start.

with the valet 561T you have several different programming/install options. With this unit its usually 2 or 3 lock pulses or 2 or three unlock pulses. Im sure you already tried it, but if you havent - 3 unlocks. If you take off the drivers side kick panel you should be able to see if you have an aftermarket remote start. Look for its "brain", or at least you would see a bunch of wires tapping into other wires.

I think this may be what is in my 04 4runner. Beneath steering wheel and fuses etc there is a black button connected to black and white wires, as well as what looks like a disconnected harness with the green and white wires cut. (This is all just hanging there not secured really) And next to the center diff lock button there is an oval red light.

I have my own photos but none via url but the button looks like this
search

how do I figure out if it is an alarm, remote start, etc? No issues with it so far...
