Hi gents, I am looking to purchase a remote starter for a 3rd gen (1997) 4runner.

I don't really need any fancy features, but a long range would be nice.

I like Clifford, the original Clifford products if you can find it, not the rebadged DEI stuff.

Compustar is also pretty popular with members here.

Allright Sir I did some research and it does seem like Compustar is my best option. However, which model should I get? Also, does Compustar have a feature that lets me know if my truck is turned on or not? Say I'm in my office 500ft away and I hit the remote start button, does the remote indicate that the truck has turned on?:cowboy:

if u want long range , no one beats compustar. goes up to half a mile i believe on a AAA battery.

I am also running a 5901. Great system and the mile range does its job! Definately reccommend it.

I'd also like to mention that remote start plays amazing tricks on people and people seem to be amazed everytime I use it.

^ No doubt! It's hilarious explaining to them that the people from the "other side" turned the car on as we approach it.

I got the compustar , 3000 feet range, also when u start it itll tell u that u started ur truck, so there is no way if u accidently start ur truck since that button needs to beheld for 2 secs, also a 15 min. Timer so it shuts the car off when no key is in the ignition. Its nice on my compustar, i start my truck at the front entrance and my parking space is over 3 blocks away, i also have the ability to get the tailgate window up and down, along with my door windows, so nice to have one touch on my 07

I decided to get this model. Did you install it yourself? If so, how hard was the install and how long did it take you? I like how the remote is 2way and when the remote started is engaged a little exhaust icon turns on, I think that's awesome.

My uncle owns an audio/ alarm shop, he s also an authorize dealer for dei and compustar, i bought it from his shop and of course they installed it, havng it installed by a professional and authorize dealer makes the alarm have full lifetime warranty. Like the company site says, warranty is void if its not from authorize dealer, i paid 800 for the installed alarm, which had everything from horn honk, back up siren, custom led, remote start, bypass, glass sensor, tilt sensor, also this took them about almost the whole day since its there first 07 runner they ever worked on wen i bought the truk in 07.

Just bought the compustar 2W900FMAS model on fleabay for $160. Do I have to get an extra modules, say if I want to roll the back window down with the push of a button?

You don't NEED and extra module for the windows, I just used a relay for mine. There are a few modules you may wan't to look at as far as security though such as a proximity or tilt sensor.

wow ur uncle charged u 800 bucks for the installed alarm ? I payed 499 for 2W900FM installed with all the functions too. u can buy the unit for 200-300 if u wanna install it urself ...

The start price for installing that alarm was 575, and then with all the add ons it camed to 840, but he made it to 800, so some add ons were free.
