Remote starter

Does anyone know if installing an aftermarket remote start is possible on the v8 limited. I believe there is a chip in our key handle and am wondering if this is an issue. Hate walking out in 0 degree weather to start the truck!! Thanks in advance.

I believe people who have done this have hidden a key somewhere in the truck to allow it to remote start - as you say, the chip in the key needs to be in the vehicle (although not necessarily in the key slot) for it to start.

There is a module that temporarily fools the computer into thinking that the transponder is in the vehicle somewhere and so allows you to have a remote start. Or you can hide a key in the vehicle like the poster above mentioned, but then that negates having the transponder... Plus an extra key from Toyota is like $90

Does anyone know, if you have the hidden key, can you start the truck with a regular duplicate without a chip, since the hidden one is in close proximity.
