Basic Python 1601 Remote/Alarm System...Nothing fancy but does the job...and I am very pleased with it. A little over a year since installation..no problems at all.

Viper 5901 alarm/remote start. Installed 1 1/2 yrs ago and no problems thus far. Remote start is a beautiful thing during the winter. You may lose the back window rolldown function with most aftermarket alarm/remote start key fobs. It can be done with the system I have but the installer wanted an extra $60 to do it so I passed.
 
ive got an AVITAL , had them program my toyota keyfob so i still had the back window function & yes it comes in handy during winter.
 
I have a Prestige remote start with the lcd remote that lets you know if it started. It's a cheap brand (made by audiovox) as I found after I had it installed but everything seems to work well.

The shop told me it would roll down my back window but it didn't and the installer said it'd require an extra module and I haven't gotten that done yet.

The only thing that I don't like about it is that you have to wait on feedback before it will unlock all 4 doors, it won't just unlock them by pressing unlock twice. You have to press once, wait a moment, then press again. Not that big of a deal but I'm impatient and used to just double-pressing not press-wait-press.

The autostart is nice because it runs for 10 min then goes dead so I could just warm it up on days I don't drive to keep things thawed and not have to remember to kill it.
 
I have a Clifford 2 way on mine. 2.5 years on my T4R and no problems yet. No back window function but I did get them to wire up the door locks so I only need the one remote. They wired it so I only have to press once and all the doors unlock.

2 way is sweet, no more guessing if it started or not. I got the non-screen remote thinking it'd save on batteries, it doesn't. The fact that it's 2 way eats batteries with screen or not.
 
I have a Viper sitting in a box on my workbench, waiting for me to attempt install. The instructions are only available to authorized installers, haven't found them online. I should be able to figure it out, just haven't had much time to look over my wiring diagrams.
 
I have an Avital 4300 remote start/alarm. Installed 12/08. Only issues I've had is the range wasn't very good. I installed it myself. Not that hard really, but then again I enjoy stuff like this ( I also installed quite a few of these at my former job). I bought an extended range antenna and moved it to the center of the windsheild and that seemed to help a lot. My recommendation would be to get a 2-way remote start so you know it started. There are some good ones out now that claim up to a mile range. Anything made by DEI (Avital, Viper, Python, Clifford) is usually pretty good. However any system will only be as good as the install. If the install sucks the RS will not function right and you won't be happy. You will also need a bypass module to get around the factory anti-theft system while remote started. These are usually cheap. Any good bypass module will still retain the funtionallity of the factory anti-theft system. Get one that doesn't require you to sacrifice a key.

scottm- look on the12volt.com for a wiring guide. It should have exactly the wires you need to tap into for the install as well as were they are located.
 
TANGENT - Maybe one of you could help me with this, but my wife's altima 3.5 has a DEI sticker on the fan shroud, but I don't know if the previous owner uninstalled the system. Where is the module usually mounted and how big is it? Will it be inside the car under the steering column area?

I just haven't had one and don't know exactly where to look.

Usually the control box is under the dash behind the center area, look for a small box approx. 3X4 in size usually black in color. More then likely you will have to take the dash panel apart to find them.
 
I'm have a Viper 5902 which is alarm/remote start. I like it. I was going to add a Smart Start module to be able to use my iphone to control it but I hear they have issues with it and it doesn't work well.

Guys I bought the 5901 viper and is bad ass system.paid 209 dls at sonicelectronix. And I aslo bouth the express kit (bypass) PKALL it works perfect the system comes with. A tempeture sensor it will tell you on the screen how hot or cold is inside!!!! Also you can change the screen color there is like 5 diferent colors you can chose from. I love it . By the way they charged me 100 buck for the installation so total was like 350dls. best buy was asking like 680 . My t4r is a 2007 and I have no isues so far . The system was installed about a month ago. No back window function yet.
 
i have compustar RF-2W900 , 3 years and not a problem, lots of range, installed 2 dei 530t for full auto windows on all doors, channel expander so i can control the 530t and the tailgate window up and down. custom led for the alarm status, back up siren, tilt sensor, glass breakage sensor, and everything the alarm included, some of theres are add on to the alarm so itll get exspensive.
 
Thanks for the advice. Could not answer, computer was down. Thinking of going with a basic Compustar. Will let you know how everything works out.
 
on our '03 4R, our basic Viper remote start with rear window functionality has worked flawlessly for almost 8 years now.

on our '10 4R, dealer gave me a remote start including installation by a speciality shop, they installed a Code Alarm basic remote start. it works, but buttons are way too finicky. the Viper is much easier to use.

How did you wired the rear window to go up and down? Did you have to use the 530 to control It ? I was told you don't need the 530 module to control the rear window. I have 4 extra chanels on my system and I would like to use 1 for the rear window. If you can find out how is wired and provide me with some details It would be cool. Thanks in advance

Which viper do you have? Someone else that has the same one or similar can probably just scan & email to you.
 
What are you guys doing to defeat the immobilizer? I bought an '03 V6 with remote start, but it will only turn over and not actually start.
