Remote Starting

Winter is coming and I realized that Remote Starter would give me more convenience by starting-up my engine and heating up the interior. Regarding this I have a few questions:
1. Can I leave my heating on when leaving the vehicle, so it would heat the interior when remote starter will start the vehicle or it will fan cold air and will make heating of the vehicle much longer? Same question with heating seats.

2. yes a bypass module is needed because of the transponder in the key. The module and key are usually hidden within the dash so as to hide it from potential thieves. it is necessary to leave the key/module in the truck. you could get the key programmed, but not cut so that they'd still need the key to steal it. whatever you do, if the thief wants your car he will take it.

4. thats a decent price on a remote start. i'm still pondering the idea of installing the viper 791x model in my truck and that goes for more, but it has some nice features
5. i'd get an alarm with it if possible, might as well have some protection.
6. i don't know if that is really needed unless you live in 0* weather all year long.

1. If you leave the heat on and whatever fan speed it'll stay that way when you remote start, only thing is it will automatically be on recirculate mode. Not sure on the seat warmers since I dont have them.

2. The immobilizer box with the key in it is placed inside of the dash by the ignition switch, so the only way they could get to it is to rip your dash panels off... and they'd have to know its in there to begin with.

3. Usually they adhere it on the windshield up above where the rear view mirror is. Another option is You can have them put it inside the headliner up there, doesn't affect the range and is completely hidden out of view.

4. I have a Viper 791XV on my truck, loving it so far though the advertisied 1/4 mile range isn't entirely accurate especially when you are in a building or even a house. Though thats a good price for a 2way remote start you have. I bought my alarm for $200 online and it cost $250 for install.

6. My alarm has a programmable run time like what you descibe. it can be set to run for a set amount of time before it automatically shuts off. Its usually used for trubo mode i.e cars with turbochargers than need to be cooled by running the engine when they park.

Really ??? I thought that metal roof will down the range at least twice or more. I remember of using portable radios and my radius was nearly doubling when I stepped out from the vehicle.

Well there isn't really a way to mount it outside of the vehicle, the antenna isn't designed for that and the provided cord for said antenna definetely isn't long enough. I guess maybe instead of running it through the passenger compartment at all you could mount it somewhere by the front grille maybe..

Now he lead to have another question. Once the Remote Start the car, when I get in, do I have to shut off the car and then put my key in and start the car again?

Depends on how your installer sets it up. On mine I can remote start unlock the truck, put the key in and turn it to the on position and then press the brake and it keeps the engine running. If you dont insert the key and just press the brake the engine will shut off. That way you need the key in order to drive the car so no one can just break in while its remote started and drive off.

Be careful who you have install it. I had a guy quote me $355 for an lcd remote and he jacked it all up. I decided to get another one put in and I had a company called Sterio West put it in.

It was $520 and its a viper with 1/4 mile range. The antenna is right by the front mirror and hardly noticable.

The key is somewhere in the dash, and you can have them grind the edges off.

The heater stays on whatever position I had it on when I shut the engine off

The system shut off after 15 min. I think and if you step on the brake w/o putting the key in then that also shuts the engine off.

They even made the back window power up as well as power down with the remote!!

I love my remote start. I love gettin the looks when i start it. Its also functional like many said during the cold mornings. I leave my heater on so by the time i enter my car the inside is ready for me. Hearing the cold engine start of the 3rd gen makes me smile. The roar wakes me up too!

That's exactly my point of getting Remote Starter, especially when you have -20C outside.
