for the rears, i would put the tweeter right under the window switch, also for an amp, dont get alpie, they are crap, i would suggest using something like the audison vrx amp. how many amps are u willing to put in ur truck? also go on ebay and buy some dynamat, the mega bulk pack is pretty cheap and with the whole box, u can dynamat all doors and tailgate and trunk floor, i did this and it sounds way better.

I'm definately not looking for pro-audio sound here so I'd rather just use stock locations and not be drilling holes in the door. So I think co-ax's will have to do for the rear. Plus, people rarely sit back there.

Alpine amps=crap? Uh, OK. I've had nothing but good luck with Alpines in the past and the PDX-5 has been known to give out more wattage than claimed per tests (over on the GTI forums). I was looking at the Audison setup you(?) or someone else had with the custom sub, but I'd rather be able to just fit one amp in a hidden location. In my 2000 Tundra I had a 5 channel Alpine and it worked great. I don't mind running more than one amp, but one amp in the stock location and one amp under the seat would have to be it. No external boxes either. I'm sure the Audison amps are great, but not looking to go THAT ballar on this! Focal's seem to be the way to go for components???

And to think I use to compete in stereo competitions back in 1993-1995 up in Seattle/Tacoma/Kirkland. A LOT has changed since then!

Wow. You need to go update your knowledge.

Alpine's amps are great. Go look at any review for them.

I personally wouldn't get Dynamat. It's too expensive for what you get. Look at RAAMAT.

dynamat mega bulk pack on ebay goes for 300 dollars shipped, so why do companies rate there power on the amps at 14.4 volts, when the car can only produce 12-13.8volts .

You get 100 feet in their bulk pack? I think in RAAMAT's you get 100 feet for $100ish. If money wasen't an issue I would probably go with Dynamat, but I don't feel like the increase in price is worth it.

Alpine's amps very frequently do over rated RMS. So even if they were rated at 14.4 they still will probably do rated at 13.8. If you car is going down to 12 then you have some electrical issues.

Yeah, Clemsonfan(oh, booo...go Hokies!) I went thru your link on the mats and that RAAMAT seems like some good stuff. When I'm ready to do mine that's probably what I'll go with.

And on the Alpine Amp...check out this guys Alpine tested amp. The RMS is WAY understated. I've always had VERY good look with them. Look on page 2 about halfway down.

Alpine vs JL Audio is always debatable. . Pretty much a matter of preference.

Yeah, I was thinking of going with the PDX-5 Five channel amp with some components in the front doors and co-axs in the rear doors. Then replacing the sub with an 8" Pioneer shallow sub. Are you guys replacing the speakers in the rear pillars and center channel area? I was planning to just leave the rear pillars disconnected and using the space the where the center channel was for antennas (sirius, future 8120 nav).

I know I posted another thread about this, but does anyone have the dimensions for the stock JBL Synthesis amp as I'd like to see if the PDX-5 would fit in that area.

Thanks! Yeah...I saw that. Bummer as I don't think the alpine amp will fit. Without doing some test fitting of course. I think someone crammed a Pioneer amp there, but not sure what model and that's an amp line I've never been too impressed with. Guess I might be sticking it under the seat like I did in my Tundra. No biggie, as then I can just keep everything in and just swap it out should I ever sell, which isn't looking like it for a LONG time!

Actually Zapco amps pack the most punch for their size. I used to use them years ago. Didn't realize they were still making them. may look into that.

So my latest idea is to put the Focal 165 KRC in the doors. That way ii won't have to worry about putting the tweeters in the rear pillars. The 165 KRC seems to be the best coax on the market. Has anyone heard them?
