remove cargo divider

Anyone know how to remove the cargo divider?

Looks like there are nuts and washers attached to bolts on the underside of the sliding tray. A metal strip seems to be attached to the backside. Maybe this is how it is removed?

Hi Ciaz, why do you want to remove? I was actually thinking about adding this feature aftermarket to prevent small items from falling into the gap when I pull the slide out. Does this not work as it seems? Thanks, Nick

I will also be looking into removing this divider. I often haul items that need to be somewhat flat in the back of the vehicle. I moved a bureau the other day and it was a pain having it balance on the divider. Hopefully it is not too hard to remove as like it for everyday use.

It's very easy to remove - just four 11mm nuts and springwashers. I didn't even need a wrench cuz the nuts were only finger tight against the washers. A five minute job.

Personally, I dig my divider. A small toolbox and my ARB recovery bag with my pull straps & jumper cables fit snugly in front of it.

Thanks for the info, ckon. For those of us planning on taking this beast to the outdoors, it is a nice feature having that bed flat. Why set up a tent if you don't have to? For me, that would have to be the selling feature, aside from the excellent 4x4'ing capability. Otherwise, I'd go with a used 3rd gen.

Actually the back of the 4runner Limited is way short to sleep in if you are 6 foot or taller. Even going at a full angle it is really tight, and if you have much of anything else at all back there it is a miserable night. I continue to be surprised at how much less room it has back there than the Highlander, which is a shorter vehicle overall. If only they had made the seats in the Limited so they did not have to flip up to fold down it would have been much better - you lose 6-8 inches that way. The Limited is not a great vehicle to sleep in...

I agree, the Trail was tighter than expected, but I'm only 5'10, so diagonal seemed long enough. Plus, that was at full extension. If you lay on your side, it's plenty big. I tried it at the dealership. However, if you are 6ft +, then it would not be comfortable.

I know this is 8 years after the fact, but this is exactly the type of information I was looking for. I'm looking at a few 2012/3 Trail models, and I was wondering if that divider could be removed easily for a totally flat cargo space for sleeping...looks like it can! But what's underneath?

I honestly didn't know that was a thing. My 2012 TE that I bought secondhand didn't come with it, so I couldn't even figure out what everyone was talking about. Had to do a little searching to find most people remove it anyways.
