Remove running boards 2015 Limited Question

I want to remove my running boards from my 2015 Limited. I want it to have a clean look. I just looked underneath it. From what I saw, it looks like I only need to remove the bolts that attach the running board brackets to the body.

It looks pretty straight forward. Am I missing anything?

I've had my running boards off, and it's very straight forward. Just unbolt from the frame. Don't let it hit you in the head as it drops.
 
Remove runningboards

Mine were gone the second day. Be careful when you handle them as the outside rolled edge is sharp as a razor blade, don't ask how I know. Other then that, just the bolts to the body. I had to reinstall the bolts as they hold the rocker panel support brackets to the body on the LTD.If anybody wants them cheap near Chicago, holler.
 
Running boards are GONE! This is something I've wanted to do since I purchased it. It has a much cleaner look. Thanks for the information.
 
Removing 2012 T4R LE Automatic running boards...

Sorry, I am new and it will not let me post anywhere else, but I would like to know if anyone has removed the automatic running boards from a 2012 Toyota 4Runner Limited? Was it easy? Anything I would need to know before attempting this? Thank you in advance!!!!

Slightly related to this thread, I'm toying with the idea of getting rid of the rocker panels all together in favor of a set of side steps that tuck up closer to the vehicle. I've seen a few users do this. I don't need sliders since we don't rock crawl, ever, but not sure what side steps to get. NFab's seem popular but I'd be concerned about the steps possibly getting hung up on some obstruction. Any thoughts?

My experience is that Toyota’s automatic side steps which dropped down low were at the perfect height for ingress and egress use. Side steps are just too high and you will just be stepping over them. They are best suited for getting things on and off the roof.

Thanks. I looked at the AMP Folding Boards but the rep told me that because of the rocker panel and the wiring that he didn't recommend using their product on an LE. I thought that was interesting!
 
Ya the factory running boards aren't very practical, might do the same and remove mine. Unless someone knows of a more practical set at a reasonable price?

Super late to this discussion as I only purchased my 2015 Limited a few weeks ago. Running boards are ridiculously useless. Has anyone replaced with practical nerf bars? If so, what? I’m looking at 5” Westins. Thanks!!

I removed my running boards on my 2012 limited and decided not to replace with anything. If you are replacing the factory running boards with something like a westins, you're probably going to have even worse ground clearance. Nerf bars that bolt into the factory running board locations won't offer any real protection, they will crumple under the weight of the vehicle. if you need a better functioning step then that's a different story

if you're going for looks I think the nfab predator (aluminum version) nerf bars are a good choice but they don't fit on the limited trims without modification of the rockers (not worth it IMO). nfabs sell steel side steps but those will rust out eventually. If you want real protection you need a slider that will mount on the frame and be able to support the weight of the vehicle
 
I should be taking delivery of my mgm pro in a few weeks. It comes with predator tube step, which I don’t want. Plan on removing it as soon as I get it.

Do the bolts need to be put back on the frame where they were (does it hold anything else?) or can I just completely remove them?

Someone here said they had to put back the bolts but it was on a limited. Is it different than the other trims?

Do all 4runners have bolts in these threads when they do not come with any type of running board from the dealership?

Or are you saying that so I might as well protect the threads since I would already have the bolts?

(My goal is to eventually put rock sliders. I just want to remove the predator step as soon as possible once I take delivery of the truck so I don't scrape it or make it dirty before I sell it)

When I installed OEM boards on my '19 that didn't come with them, there were already placeholder bolts in place.
 
hit the bolts with some rust penetrant first to make your life easier. let it sit for an hr or so. if you have road salt where you live and your rig is more than a few years old, those bolts aren't coming off without a fight
