removed resonator, rerouted exhaust out the side

After banging my resonator and tail pipe one too many times while wheel'n, I took ric's advice and scrapped my resonator. I went ahead and had the exhaust rerouted out of the side at the same time and had a new exhaust tip installed.

So, why did I post this in the off-roading section rather than the exhaust and performance zone??? Well, removing the resonator doesn't add any HP and really didn't change the exhaust note, so I don't consider it a "performance" mod. However, this is a much more practical off-roading mod, especially with the crap departure angle on the 4th gen 4R. Total cost was about $150 for parts and labor. Below are a couple of pictures of the new product and the old resonator.

The other benefit of the side outlet exhaust is that it has cut down on the sulfur smell significantly. It didn't eliminate it all together, but from what I can tell so far, it has helped quite a bit.

I bent mine the first time I offroaded and did that too and love it. If you make the angle a 90 deg it will be even less exhaust smell.

Looks good. Couple of questions:

What type of tip is that? I don't know the brand, but it is about the same diameter as the Valor exhaust tip that I replaced and you see on a lot of 4R's. It is an oval shape (rather than round like the Valor) and it is a weld-on tip.
Is it stainless steel? Yes
Did you (or they) weld the new pipe to the cut off section of the pipe, or did you just use clamps?They welded it. It looks like they did a clean, professional job.
You said it sounds pretty much the same. What difference did you notice in sound? Little to none. I think I only noticed a small difference because I was listening for it, but really it doesn't make a difference at all.

Nice fix on the tail end there. I've been dying to get another exhaust system done up on my truck since I was sure that would definitely cut back on the exhaust smells coming in while the rear window is down.

Oh, trust me, I do! Unfortunately, this is the best I could do with my budget for right now. But it is practical mod none the less, and it looks good too.

I took a look at your T4ROTM thread, but could only find one picture of your side exhaust mod. The pic wasn't really close enough to see in detail, but I think that's what I want to do. I don't want a chrome exhaust tip (no offense to those who have one), I'd rather paint the tailpipe flat black and have a slant cut like yours. Do you have any betters or closer pics?

Quite a bit. I wouldn't say that it completely eliminated the problem. But it has decreased significantly.
