Removed wood grain

Today I was just reading some other posts on here and saw where someone removed their wood grain. My was/is in bad shape and has been since I had it. Next thing I know is I'm driving down the road peeling it off.It was much easier than I expected. My wife saw me doing it and started to join in. Kinda nice putting the wife to work on the truck without her even knowing it. It is leaving a little residue but nothing some mineral spirits can't clean up.

Great job! I have been doing the same thing to mine, have about 6hrs into it, still not finished. This is one place toyota got it wrong on the 3rd gen-

I took a pretty heavy duty knife and would start with a corner. Once I got it started, I would pull with one hand on the wood grain and use the knife to cut/pry the tape holding it in. There was a lot of tape left over that I had to use my hands on to remove it. Scratch and peel with your fingernail. When I was done I used mineral spirits to clean it up. Be careful with the mineral spirits. It will start to take off some of the paint on the plastic if you are not careful. Here is what it looked like before peeling with my fingers. My hands were worn out afterwards.

To remove vinyl strips from cars you can heat the vinyl with a hair dryer so the glue gets soft (just a few seconds) then it pulls off easily. You might try that but be careful not to melt the plastic.

For some reason rubbing alcohol on a cloth rag worked the best for me to get residual adhesive off. I tried the Goo Gone, as well, but got frustrated, and wasn't going to use acetone.... The hair dryer worked wonders, too. The important thing is getting it off, though.
