Removing dash

I've searched various threads on dash replacement kits but there's no mention of how to actually remove the original dash (for another project I'm considering). Specifically, I want to remove the silver piece that surrounds the sound system, temp controls etc.

Can anyone tell me how this is removed? I can pull the left side away from its "locking clips" but the right side just won't release and I am concerned about breaking something.
