removing eblems. Can you reattach?

Would it be possible to remove the emblems on my 4runner and have them powdercoated, and reattach them? My 97 has gold emblems and I would really like them to be black. I read about plastidip but im not sure how that would hold up.

Use fishing line to cut the two sided tape that holds the emblem on.

To re-install , buy some two sided tape from the autoparts store. cut and trim to fit.

As for powder coating. I don't think it will work as it is plastic and would met in the oven. Try some good spray paint. no plastidip as it is not durable.

I had asked about plasti dip because I didn't know they made it in a sprayable format. So it isn't very durable huh? I've had better than average durability from the VHT products. Of course nothing as good as a real Urethane or Enamel for plastic parts.

will the double sided tape from the parts store be good enough to hold the emblems on? Would I be better off buying new eblems and spraying them?

I used shoe goo inside the holes for the rear emblem. The front emblem is held on by two screws so that one doesn't need anything.

I love plasti dip. I've done my emblems rims and grille black and they are holding up great... that is until some lil immature person duct taped my entire car in highschool and it got on one of emblems and peeled a little bit off.

I too have the gold emblems and just wanted to black them out but as I under stand the emblems are real gold plated and are about a $700 option from factory.
