Removing Roof Rack Cross Bars?

Does anyone know how to remove the cross bars from the roof rack? If I loosen the clamp screws I can slide them forward and back but I don't see an easy way to get them out without taking the whole thing apart.

Be careful here use a butter knife or real small head screwdriver to slip under cover , you'll feel the spot about an 1 1/2 in from end , mine were real brittle & broke . Just go slow till you feel them come up .

Do you have to pry under it somewhere to release the clips? The front one is on solid, the rear one will move a little bit but I don't see any way to get it off without breaking it.
 
There's a clip in the front top, and then two clips on each side. Be careful...they are easy to break. Once you get the cover popped off, you then have to slide out the two rubber strips in the sides of the bars. Then you can slid the cross rails out the rear. After you do it once, you'll be able to do it fast from them on.

When you put them back in pay attention to the arrows. They go in one direction only for proper airflow.

Mine won't budge!
 
Ya their a bit*^ start on the outside go from the front, inch or so back slip your screwdriver under & slowly try to pry up you can feel the clip as you push it up , it needs to be slim but wide enough to pry up.

Do the clips stick down along the bottom or are they arranged horizontally across the back inside? I can pry the front out a little but it's stuck solid about 2" back.

Same. Mine snapped and I was being real careful. They're pretty expensive to replace too.
 
The same on the rear part about 1 1/2 in from each side , sorry can't get you a pic I replaced mine with the urban rack , you'll get it don't get pissed & go fast . Same on each side .
 
I broke two of my end caps, but I glued them back together, holding up fine, looks ok. I drilled and tapped four pieces of aluminum flat bar and slid them into the rails after removing the cross bars. Now I can bolt things onto it like my roof rack or my Yakima cross bars. Very useful now, was rather pathetic before.

In the first pic ypu can see where it snaps in.
Get the opener between the cap and seel and gently pull out with the opener while lifting up on the cover with your hand. The opener is used for opening your standard gallon paint can. If your neighbors dont have your local hardware store will for a buck or 2. If you destroy your cover I do have all 4 from my rack. Trying to sell the whole rack but I dont see many tr4 without one
