Removing running boards on 99' sr5

I want to remove the running boards on my 99' sr5 but I want to keep the black fender flares. The problem is if I remove the running boards the fender flare won't go all the way down and I don't think it will look good. Saw some posts about oem mudflap attachment things but those seem impossible to actually find and very expensive. Any alternatives that don't involve me removing boards and having a large gap at the bottom.

Somebody did a 3d printed cap thing but idr where it is. They used to be for sale on here

I wonder if removing the plastic piece from the running board and putting it back on while cutting it to extend to the bottom would be an option
