Removing Stock radio in 1990

I have a 1990 Toyota 4 runner and i am in the process of installing xm radio and i need to get to the back of the deck to hook up a couple of wires, my question is i cant figure out how to remove the pannel that surrounds the head unit. I dont want to break anything. I had a 1998 Tacoma and that was easy to disasemble and remove the head unit from. I have installed many head units in different vehicles, but this one seems tricky? Thanks for your help

I have a 91, and I have taken the dash apart too many times to count. it is more involving than most new cars. you will have to remove the glove box (~4 screws, couple of wires), and also the panel under the steering wheel (also ~4 screws).
After pulling the knobs off the heater controls, the panel around the HU should just pull off. you may want to take the heater control panel off first (behind the knobs, just snaps off and takes care of A/C button too)
then its just a matter of taking off the 4 bolts that hold the deck bracket in place. hope this helped, maybe next time i take mine apart ill take some pics.

It sounds difficult but its really not. It took me about 6 hours to remove the dash install the radio and re-install the dash

n8buddy got it right. It is involved, but not too hard. Helps to have a drill handy, takes care of those screws quick. You might want to replace your in dash speakers too. If you've got them in my truck, not sure if they were in the runner tho.

once you do it say 2-3 times, you dont even have to think about it. I could probably change my head unit in less that half an hour now that i have taken it apart so many times . I can proudly say that i have removed almost every panel possible inside at least once!
