Removing the Dash

I hardwired an Escort radar detector this past weekend and used the instructions below to remove the center trim and dash:

These are excellent instructions and the pictures show your quite nicely exactly how to remove each piece.

However, I just wanted to add a word of caution. In one step you pull off the trim that goes on the sides and under the steering column and let it just hang there. It is about 100 degrees down in Houston right now so I kept having to go inside to get air. Moving in and out of the vehicle while this trim was just hanging there caused it to rub against the steering column on both sides and create scratches. So you might want to wrap a towel or something around the steering column when doing this to prevent that from happening to you. I was able to rub some of the light scratches out but am not sure what to do with the deeper ones.

Get some Toyota Leather and Vinyl protector. It is similar to Maguires and to a lesser extent Armor All. It adds a shine and has buffed out small scratches I have in my cargo area. It also 'feeds' the vinyl/plastic with emollients.
