Removing the protective film on the rear fender flares

I feel like this has to have been asked before, but I've got no clue what the stuff is called exactly. But the stock 'invisible bra' style film that's on the rear fender flares and bottom of the door, what is it, first and then, how to I get rid of it? Whats the best removal tool/chemical combo?

stone/chip guard. gets nasty looking over time, as seen. hair dryer/heat gun will work, being careful of not applying too much heat or the paint will come off as well. been there. there is a spray that is applied to this stuff, that softens it but that too, will remove some paint as it has to scraped off. been there as well.

We'll see what happens as the paint isn't in the greatest shape to being with here, lol
