Removing the Wheels?

I'm dumbfounded. I'm pulling off the wheels to remove the side steps and to do a brake inspection before the truck is up and running again, and I can't remove the wheels. I pulled off all of the nuts, and still, the wheel is locked on, almost like a rear brake drum with the e-brake on, it just won't come off. I see that whatever piece is over the wheel bearing may be holding it on, but I'm totally at a loss on how to remove this.

try hitting the wheel sidewall even kick it, when you put wheel back on put never seize compoun on the hub.

I've hit that thing up and down. I'm pretty sure I could drive on it. I'm going to spray WD-40 in there and hope it clears up a bit so I can break the wheel loose. I'm just making sure, though, that I should only have to remove the lug nuts right? Because this wheel is coming off, and I don't want to break anything in the process.

Hahaha I knew someone would ask, but yes, I lifted it at the axle. Long grass makes it look like it could still be on the ground.

Glad you got it off. I'm pretty sure those rims are "hub-centric" which means that they are aligned by the hub and not by the lug nuts (which would be lug-centric). Therefore, the rim fits very tight on the hub and if you have a little aluminum corrosion then they can get quite tight.

What comes after "I" how did they get the wheels off? I'm going to guess they put the car back on the ground until the wheels pooped off.

i put one lug not back on by hand, but just a few threads to keep the lug nut from fall off. than i kick the tire till it breaks loose. it happens alot.

Smear the hub with water proof grease before you reinstall, will prevent it from seizing together, happens on subarus as well (I own both).

I may loosen the lug nuts and take if for a stroll down the driveway. Any advice on breaking these loose?

I've never had one that I couldn't kick off...kick it like a man! (kidding) I would try to loosen the lugs a couple of turns back from touching the rim and set the vehicle's weight settle back down on it...if that doesn't work, shake the heck out of it and see it it breaks loose. I would do this with one wheel at a time. You could also try setting an angled piece of wood under it sideways to kick the tire out at an angle as you lowered it off the jack. Be creative...it will break free you just have to find the right combination.

you should of seen mean trying to get the tires off my sisters truck and papa's i was hitting the side walls with a 10lb sledge hammer almost knoced it off the jack stands them suckers where on there good

My brother, a mechanic, has a 25lb dead blow he uses for this exact reason. I laughed my arse off the first time I saw the BFDBH and then he told me why he had it.
