Removing U Joint (easy) Question

Rear U Joint went bad, took out the driveshaft to replace it, well upon observing the u joint, it seems there are no lock rings? I do not see any to remove, is this normal?

I also have new Moog ones, that have lock rings, will I not need the lock rings? Seems stupid to not have the or even have a slot for them.

In short, my question is does my driveshaft have retaining clips/rings with the rear u joint?

I have the drive shaft that has two u joints in the front. Double chamfer or something I think it is.

Just did my rear u-joint last week. The lock rings are on the inside of the bearings, they pop out easily with a screwdriver. I followed a writeup on pirate and did it with a hammer and socket

They must be in there. Hose it down with brake cleaner and they should reveal themselves!

Ah, I understand. Such little info on these things.. everyone says lock rings are on the exterior when theyre actually interiors, thanks for the help. It was a major road block today, never thought about being interior ones.

This is future info for those trying to remove their driveshaft on a 4wd 96-02 4Runner with double chamfer u joint systems, there are bolts at the axle end of the driveshaft and nuts on studs on the tranny end. It will not slide out of the tranny, just unbolt. Hope this helps.

Mine was so frozen that I just used a grinder to cut out the old joint.
