Repaint Questions

I recently purchased this bumper and am planning on mounting it to my NATURAL WHITE 4Runner. Currently it is body matched to arctic pearl or whatever you guys call that color. I wanted to POR this thing. Any ideas on how to prep it? I was going to sandblast it and clean up the welds but what do you guys think? I think the welds might just hide under black non metal flake paint. I want to POR the thing so i dont have to dismount and repaint it in a year after i fling rocks at it all day everyday etc. I have also never used POR so I'm dying to test out my new quart of it!

I say keep it the same color as it will match your flares and cladding. It will look pretty good.

I've never used POR, but I keep reading it needs a rough surface to adhere to or it just falls off. So sandblasting would be ideal.

Do you own a sandblaster?

If not then I suggest you just pay to get it PowderCoated. Most PC places will sandblast it included in the price.

I had my complete tube bumper PC'd for $150. It looks great and will last longer than most over-the-counter paint.

x2 on the bumper. That thing looks sharp. Yeah, who made it? I can answer some of your questions.
POR prep - Clean the surface with mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, etc. Use a medium grit scuff pad on the entire surface. Then use the POR marine clean stuff. Let dry completely. Then use the POR prep and ready (or metal prep) stuff. Let dry completely. Use a brush and (don't use a sponge brush) apply light coats. This stuff drys funky, if you put to much on it will look perfect at first, then as it's drying it will slowly gather at the bottom and you'll get hardened drips. I highly recommend reading this http://www.por15.com/Data Sheets/no read directions.pdf. It's a strange substance. Topcoat it with a rattle can of your choice.
2. Powder coat. The only problem I have with PC on armor is if it chips it's not so easy to fix.
3. If you're not concerned with rust, just paint it with a heavy duty outdoor spray. If it chips or scuffs, just touch it up. Cheap.
