Replace 4th Gen Key with 5th Gen?

Does anyone know if it's possible to cut and program a 5th generation key and fob to work in my 4th gen? I like having the buttons built into the key instead of having the separate fob. If it's as simple as buying one online and getting the dealer to cut/program it I'd do it, as my one key fob is on its last leg anyway. Anybody done this or know if it works? Thanks

You could probably get the key actually cut for the vehicle as the shank should be the same. But as for the immobilizer and keyless entry systems... you might have an issue. That being said, the newer 4Runner keys are basically older style Camry keys so cross-platform programability might be possible. But I have never tried it and to be honest with you I don't have a bunch of blank factory keys laying around to test it with...

Thanks. That's what I was thinking... I didn't realize Camry keys were the same. an anybody confirm that it would/would not work?
