Replace airbags...

Hello, I need your help.

I bought an used 4Runner Limited 2006, I bought it cheap because had a lateral crash, in general is ok and the damage was repair. The problem is that the driver airbag was activated so I need to replace it with the ECU.

In Toyota the replacement cost US$10.000, a little bit crazy, so I'm looking for alternatives.

Anyone can help me?
Is safe to buy an airbag on ebay?

What do you mean you need to replace it with the ECU? Does that mean your ECU must be replaced, the airbag needs to be replaced, or both? $10k for an airbag sounds steep. $10k for an ECU doesn't. I would by an airbag off eBay, so long as it was a OEM one.

Well there's no modules on eBay. And I doubt you'll be able to get one from anywhere else because the salvage yard ones are going to have the same problem as you. Maybe get the module from toyota and the bags from the internet?

Searching for airbags I found a study that says that it could increase mortality, and a lot that says that they are not a very great help (no more of 8%).
