Replace speakers?

I'd love to see some updates on this. I have been considering different things myself. The stock system is OK and has some nice bass but boy are those highs harsh! I also am pretty spoiled coming from a BMW though :-\

I replaced all mine in my Limited. They sound 100 times better but I lined everything with sound deadener too.The stock JBL amp is 650 watts and not that bad.....for stock ,of course. To put in a aftermarket amp would take complete re-wiring.Just make sure the speakers you get are efficient with a higher db rating if using the stock JBL amp. I replaced the stock JBL Nav with a Pioneer Z120BT also.

3.5 " Infinity Kappas- I had to make a small bracket so they attach to factory holes. I had tried JL Audio 3.5's but the highs were'nt crisp enough for me. Love the Kappas! These are the main speakers you hear in the truck.
Front doors
The factory has some 6x9 subwoofers.That's a wierd size for aftermarket so I put in Polk Audio 6 inch subwoofers and made a bracket to fit them.
Rear doors and rear liftgate
I put in JL Audio 6.5 inch. Again I had to do a little custom fitting as stock speakers are a wierd shape and no aftermarket speakers will be exact remove and replace.
I hav'nt changed the stock 8 inch sub as it's kind of wierd too. It has a dual cone with 2 pos and 2 neg connections. I don't know how many ohms it is.Doesn't sound that bad now that I replaced the other speakers.

shouldnt component speakers go in the front doors and not subs?

No, If you put in new amps your going to have to rewire the truck because the rear 4 speakers are on one channel and a relay/crossover that they call (party mode) splits/stages them. I was going to put in new amps and rewire the truck as I usually go OCD on car audio but I can live with this amp/system as it sounds pretty good ....to me.......for now.I'd be embarrassed to say how much money I put into some past systems I built that somebody else is listening to now.
I don't know of an adapter to swap the amp and keep the JBL nav.Might be though. There is a wiring harness to use the JBL amp with an aftermarket HU and one to use all the steering wheel switches.
The speakers that really improve the sound quality the most are the 2 mid/tweeters in the dash. They are kind of a wierd shape and hard to fit new ones because the factory ones have the crossovers built on to them and are on a sort of bracket that's bigger then a 3.5" but a 4" would be too deep.
The woofers in the doors as far as I can tell are only getting a low pass signal from the amp. I tried 1 of the JL Audio co-axials to see and I couldn't hear any mid or highs were coming thru. Thats why I put in just the 6" woofer from a higher end polk component system in the front doors.The way the they have it sound staged is your lows coming from the doors and highs and mids coming from the dash.The higher angle windshield in the 5ths bounces sound right back to your ears.The backs are just fillers. I have to give them credit for getting as much as they do out of low end paper speakers.A better HU like my Pioneer,keeping the factory amp/wiring and good mid grade efficient speakers helped immensely and rocks pretty good!
But don't get me wrong the best way is to do a complete re-wire with new amps.Alot of work and alot more money and unless your a real audiophile, not worth it in my book in a truck.Now in my house I have a Yamaha reciever set up with Klipsch surround speakers and built a HTPC with 2 150gb Rapters raid 0 for for the OS and gaming and 6 750gb Seagates in raid 5 fo storing movies. But , I hardly ever use it now as I put a 50"Panny plasma in my room...The kids use it though!
