Replaced antenna mast and now new problem.

I replaced the antenna mast with one off of ebay through a link I found on a few threads here. I removed the old mast and there was no nylon strip anywhere to be found. I put the new mast in following instructions found on here and everything seemed good. After a couple of test strokes up and down it started to make a grinding noise when going up only. Then it started to stop just before it made it all the way down and struggles on the initial start on the way up. The motor sounds strong so I'm not sure what's going on.

The nylon strip has to be somewhere. Only one place it can be. It's still in the motor interfering with your new mast. You'll have to dismantle the motor and remove the mast piece(s) and retry.

Now it's working like it should. I ran to the store real quick and it did everything that it should.

If it had the old mast wouldn't it not have allowed the mast to ever fully seat not just part of the time?

Where do you think the white strip went?

The only thing I can think of is it broke and some one took it out but put the mast back on.

Sounds like it broke and is still in there.

I've replaced my antenna mast three times. The last time I too could not find the broken nylon strip. It was in the housing but I simply missed it because it broke in a few good pieces that allow the strip to be in a few circles, not in a coil.
