US Immigration policy is supposed to support and protect American citizens. Testimony is given yet the people we have elected to represent us (on both sides of the aisle) fail to change policy to prevent incidents such as this...

This damage is caused by legal immigration.

What is the purpose of immigration? Should we as a country be admitting people to do jobs that Americans can and should be doing?

Admittedly I didn't watch the videos, though based on the quote above, what is wrong with that life plan? Is that not everyone's goal? If he has played the game within the rules, what did he do wrong?

Nothing is wrong for him. He did what most people would try to do. The question is: Why does American policy allow him and 100's of thousands of others to do so?

We have cab drivers in San Diego, most of them are foreigners here on temp work visas.

I'm not convinced those jobs could not be filled by Americans.

The cab company owners pay these guys less than minimum wage but they want the job.

There are unemployed in San Diego who would do that work. The cab companies don't want to hire local.

And unfortunately the tax and immigration laws allow this abuse.

I too am not convinced Americans would fill those jobs... unless welfare was toned down. There must be an incentive to work. An incentive does not always have to be positive, they can and should also be negative... for example... positive incentive: You get a paycheck and can go buy a cool ipad... negative: You don't get a paycheck so you have to stand in line at a soup kitchen to get something to eat every day instead of receiving food stamps which allow you to skip the soup line, buy fast food, and hang out in the mall shopping watching movies all evening...

I believe it is both our immigration policy and our welfare/public assistance policy which has created this situation. No one is willing to enact or allow any negative incentives...

A system I believe would create both, would be a welfare assistance program which matches your current paycheck up to a certain dollar amount. For example if someone is working a minimum wage job and earning 300 dollars a week pre taxes... the program would "match" that person's paycheck and give them 300 tax free dollars a week. If the next week they do not go to work every day and only make 130 dollars, the program would pay them 130 tax free dollars to match their check for that week. This type of thing would create incentive to work. If you didn't work you would not get the assistance (obviously there would need to be exceptions to this for the truly disabled and other special circumstances)...

My previous company had an entire team of Indian engineers on staff who were here on H-1B visas. Management would run a tiny, obscure job posting in the classified ads of the local newspaper for engineering jobs that in reality didn't exist. The purpose of the ad was to legally justify having all the H-1B visas.

This is a subject near and dear to my heart. Ted Cruz wants to close these loopholes:
