Replaced cv axle..Now 4wd won't engage

Hey guys, I posted a thread where I mentioned I snapped a cv axle. Well, got it replaced with a new napa cv. When driving around,I'm hearing what sounds like a suspension piece is loose towards the front of the truck when going over bumps. Car drives straight like it should.

Now the big problem, I can put it in 4hi with no problems but the indicator light never stops flashing (no engagement) and when trying to put it in 4lo it grinds like no other and wont even go in. I'm guessing I broke something else?:redbrick: any insight fellas? Thanks

Which side did you replace?

Are you trying to engage 4Lo while moving? If you read manual it suggests engage at 5mph or less and also preffered come to stop put in neutral then engage. As far as it not wanting to go in 4Hi there is a possibility that one of your VSV is not working correctly. Not sure if when you broke it if whipped around and maybe damaged something. As far as the noise goes to hard to diagnose without hearing it.

I replaced the driver side, yes I tried engaging at a complete stop. I just went out and tried listening to the clicking noise from the actuator, but nothing...i guess i gotta find some pics of what it looks like and try and trouble shoot from here..

It sounds like the actuator isnt engaging but that would make more sense if you replaced the passenger side cv. Are you sure you got the cv all the way into the spider gear?

Yea, pretty sure its all the way in. It makes sense now that it would grind like hell because the actuator isnt working right? My 4wd indicator light is just flashing when I put it in 4hi or the push 4wd button hence the grind in 4lo right?

Does the grinding sound like its up front or in the transfer case? It's possible you took something out in the front diff, spider gears, center pin, stub shaft, or god forbid the ring and pinion. Try tapping on the actuator to see if it will go in.

Yea.. I'm gonna crawl under the truck in a second bc something is definitely loose down there (just drove around the block). thanks fOr the help Zach and pikeman.
