Replaced stock head unit, and new Kenwood HU still freezes and reboots.

So, like many ppl I was sick and tired of the stock head unit. I finally took advantage of some Black Friday deals from Crutchfield and I ordered the Kenwood DNR876S. Swapped it in which wasn’t too bad. But I’m still getting the same friggin resets/ reboots that I did with the Oem Entune unit. Has anybody else had this happen? I searched but didn’t find anyone specifically with the same issues.

My first thoughts were maybe I blocked the cooling fan with all the maestro, and Sirius modules. So I pulled it back out and made sure there wasn’t any obstructions. Checked every connection, but it was all good imo. It just seems really odd to me, and maybe it wasn’t a software issue With my stock headunit. I’m starting to think it’s a power issue more than anything. I just drove 400km, and it reset twice. About the same as when my stock unit was in.

was the entune and kenwood unit using the same power line ? perhaps try a different one?

Try disconnecting the Sirius tuner for a couple days and see if you still have an issue. You casn always just stream it which is better sound quality anyways.

I installed a different Kenwood head unit in my 2019 T4R Several months ago and it hasn’t crashed or reset yet. Wireless CarPlay works great and I have no complaints.

I’ve had Marine electronics in my boat behave exactly as you describe over the years and they were all intermittently resetting due to bad grounds, loose fuses or loose wire connections.

Two Completely different head units from different manufacturers resetting randomly points to a loose connector, loose fuse or bad ground somewhere in the wiring that provides power to the head unit.

Good luck getting to the bottom of this.

Thanks guys, I figured I’d take it out for a third time and check everything again. Might even try to trace back my power wire and see what I find. After that might reach out to Crutchfield and see what they say..
