IF you are looking for power gains, a cold air kit will give you a bit, but again, its going to be very minimal. Plus the kits I have seen for the 4runner thus far keep the filter in the engine bay (hot air), and if they made one that sits inside the fender like on a car I would not want it....its a 4x4 ie water, snow etc

I dyno'd my last mustang before and after with a cold air kit (just happened to be that way when tuning it one day), and I think it was a difference of around 3rwhp

Things like exhaust, heads, power adders etc are what you want if you really want to make more power

I understand what your saying, but This truck is my DD. I don't need 250HP + to get my butt to work in the morning.

What this filter did for my 4Runner was to make it run the way it should have when it rolled off the boat!

More grunt from a dead stop.
Smoother shift points.
Less downshifting in high gear when going up a hill.

IMO best $50 I have spent. Not everyone would consider it money well spent but if we were all the same it would be a very boring world.
 
I agree with THUNDR...

You said it'd foolish to spend more than $20 on a filter...if you stick with an OEM filter, just as an example, you're spending approx $18.50 PER filter...this filter costs $50...over time, it will pay for itself and much more. Not to mention the performance gains you get...even on a Runner, I'm not sure a cold air kit will do much for you, even then...I didn't purchase this filter for a boost in HP, I bought it for the superior quality of filter that it is.

The boost in power was just a perk.

To each their own, but as of now, I'm LOVIN the new power and the peace of mind knowing my engine will remain cleaner as long as it's got a True Flow in the air box.

It doesn't come over-oiled, like most. It's the same as the Amsoil (which is already tried and proven) just a little better design and a step above.
 
If you're worried about it being over-oiled you can dab it with a paper towel before you install it, which is actually recommended.

Mine was delivered to my parents house yesterday so I will be putting it in along with the PIAA's this weekend.

Cool...I hope you like yours and it's performance as much as I like mine. Please install and give us your honest opinion. I noticed improvement the next day but it did get better after that. Please give us your opinion after you have driven on some roads that you frequent often...this is where you will notice the most improvement IMO...Let us know
 
Oh I will definitely let you guys know. I was going to go home tonight but I didnt feel like making the 1 1/2hr drive after work so I will be going one day this weekend which will give me the mileage I need to start seeing the difference.

To be honest i really can't wait. Its just like when i was waiting for the head work and custom cam to be finished for my mustang.
I'll put the 100-200 miles on this weekend and then start my opinion from there since I read the computer should see the difference after that also.

:D I know but I love and espect any type of performance gain, no matter how little or how efficient it makes something. Besides clean air is good for anything. Now if I could convince my mom tolet me put a 347 in a V8 Explorer that would be a sleeper.

Just wana say thanks Jason!! Another TrueFlow owner...... Ive had it for about 3 days and miles worth and I'm just now starting to notice improvement. It shifts a bit cleaner and accelerates smoother.
 
Ok, I put in the True Flow Filter yesterday along with the PIAA lights. I di not drive any until when I left tonight. The filter only has 70miles through it so I am not sure if the better mileage I had coming back was due to it but I feel it is because I always fill up at the same place before I leave and I use Mid-Grade as always. Well normally my hand will be just past the "F" mark tothe point that you can see the white mark. Today it didnt go past the mark and I pretty much drove as normal an actually detoured through the city to run a couple of errands. I will say my downshift when passing seems smoother but I expect to really be able to give more info inthe next 3-4 days.

Now the PIAA lights I am very pleased with so far. I waited till dark to leave in order to get some use out of them. There is not a noticeable amount of Blue Tint to the lights which I do like. The are rated at 3800K. The lights definitely made a visible difference onthe country roads leaving my parents as well as on the highway making the lines more visible and giving me plenty of distance visibility. My high beams were not necessary where I normally would use them.

As of now I am very please with both purchases. Now the filter was a very tight fit and I did have a time getting the lid to the AirBox closed but it did close. Did any of you guys dremel any of the black plastic off of the filter to make it drop in a little further?


JASON---Thanks for 2 great products. I will give more feedback on the filter in the coming days.
