Replacement Bulbs

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this has been talked about way too much, but I'm looking at getting replacement bulbs.

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this sort of thing, so I was just wondering if anyone could give me some insight into what bulb would be best for the money.

I'm not really looking into spending $60 for those HIR things, and I'm not really into the blue tinted look. Thanks for your help in advance!

ok, you want brighter bulbs but dont want to spend 60 for HIR bulbs, those u could only use for your highs & fogs anyway. so i assume your talking about brighter low beam bulbs. the best thing short of HIDs is to swap out the H11 for H9.(about 13-16 bux each) the bulb will have to be modded very slightly to fit the 08 headlight. heres the link for a good read, use the search to find more info. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/57508-h11-silverstars.html

I did the Silverstars before upgrading to HID's and they weren't bad. I found them on eBay for like $35 a pair. Never had any issues with them. I just wanted to look and light output of the HID's, so I finally decided to upgrade.

with all do respect,the H9 s will blow the silverstars away, last longer , & cost less ,theres no comparision. you can get them at advance auto, etc. but if modding is out of the question, try osram nightbreakers +90, but they will cost 60 a pair , they were better than the silverstar ultras i had for my highs at the time. now for highs, the HIRs may cost but will be the best. whatever you buy, remember to use gloves & clean the bulbs with alcohol before installing.

I have been using Silverstars (4000K) and Silverstar Ultras (4100K) in all of my vehicles and I like them for being brighter and whiter than stock (~3500K). The only down side is they tend to burn out faster than stock bulbs and even more so if your car uses them for the DRL's as my 3rd gen did and as my g/f's DD Malibu does. In those cases they seemed to only last 12-18 months.

There are a lot of choices depending on what you want to do. With my aging vision, I yanked out a set of HOEN 5000K bulbs from my 4th gen and went back to the Silverstar Ultras. I was losing too much useable light in foul nightime weather. Changing the fogs to Hella Optilux Extreme Yellow (2500K) really helped with that, too.

the H9 are 2100 lumens, compared to the stock bulbs 1350, the higher lumens is what to look for if you want more useable high. osram NB +90 are around 1800, & im fairly certain the silverstars are less, maybe 1500 , even if the SS are 1800, thats still short of 2100 for the low beams. now the SS ultras are around 1700 lumens, but the HIRs are over 2500, thats a big difference when it comes to useable light output. kelvins refers to light temp. (yellow-white-blue degrees of color) thats why most people look for a certain K rating & believe the whiter light means brighter, more powerful bulbs, but its the higher lumen count that helps you see better. by the why, H9s are very white.

Hey Chaz, what are the best bulbs for 2003-2005 headlights that don't have the HID's? Are they the 9011 and 9012's from John Deere? Don't really want to go HID yet, but in the future I will.

yea, the HIRs are great for your year (checkout scottms post.) way more lumens than stock or plus bulbs. you might have to adjust the the beam pattern a bit (maybe just the drivers side- down & more towards center, pass just down) u can get em at JD or here, this ia a comparision. I got HIRs on ebay, already trimmed. Forget the Silverstars, they are crap. They don't last very long at all and I had real problems with them in the rain. HIRs are a pretty good alternative.

kwik8606 cant use the 9006, he has an 08 4r, so only H11 or H9 will do for the lows.
