Replacement Key?

I'm looking to replace the keys that I got when I bought my '98 Limited. They're just run-of-the-mill keys with no plastic on them. I want to get some that have the black end with the toyota logo on them.
Where is the best place to look for them?

Also, I want to get a fob, but not sure if I have the right connector. I have a box under the seat that says "V.I.P. Security" or something. Does that mean I could get a fob?

I got an extra from the dealer a month or two ago, it was like $30 cut off my VIN.

I bought an OEM key from ebay (8 bucks). Home depot copied the new key from the master for free. I also bought an OEM keyfob for 40 bucks (don't remember from where). The programming steps are very easy here is a link: Programming Instructions for keyless entry remote?

My window says V.I.P security but I don't have the box under the seat. I have the security system box under the trunk plastic (meaning its the factory system and not dealer installed). The key fob I used has the FCC ID: HYQ12BBX (made after 2007), but HYQ1512Y can also be used. If I am not mistaken these key fobs work with both the factory and dealer systems.

*also note when you program, if your door lock actuators are weak, assist them by pulling up and pushing down on the lock manually as you lock and unlock from the buttons.

Good Luck!

Need to search the forum before buying key fob. There are several different models depndiing on what came or was installed on the truck

Thanks for all the info!
Is there a way to test the security system? I'm not sure if it works.

Also, where did you find your key/fob? I looked on eBay and the only ones I can find are for '99+

If you want to test the security system just lock yourself inside the car, wait for about a minute (or until the security system light starts flashing), then pull up on the lock. This should trigger the alarm. Just use the key to unlock it to make it stop.

I don't know of any way to test the keyless entry though. I don't see why it shouldn't work though.

Here is the link to the key fob: Toyota Keyless Entry Remote - 4 Button w/ Hatch Glass for 2001 Toyota 4Runner - Car Keys Express

Here is the link to the key (I'm sure you can find cheaper): https://www.ebay.com/p/657014532?ii...5ofWIlVeByNDSQFkkWsRxSPmdrBoCdoEaAmN0EALw_wcB

***NOTE: I have a 2001 with the factory system. So even though the keyfob worked for me I can't guarantee it will work for you. Best idea is to look for someone with the same setup and see what worked for them.

I tried setting off the alarm, but the light never came on.
Thanks for the links, I'll look into them

Edit: Just tried hitting the green button on the side of the box and the security light turned on, I'm going to try getting a fob and see if that might work.

Good luck man! Try to make sure the fob works with the RS3000 system you have.
