Replacing 3VZE with diesel

So the 3VZE in my '90 4runner needs a major overhaul, but I'm thinking swapping it out for a diesel would be a better idea. Any thoughts on going the 3L (2.8litre) over the 2l (2.4litre), & is there a whole lot of difference in performance (I would probably end up bolting on a turbo anyhow)??

it would be pretty damn reliable, that much I know. At least you have the availability of a diesel there.

I kind of want one, but it's just too expensive.

I checked out a price on a jdm diesel and it was going to be over 12k for the engine and partial install kit

Make sure you really really are in love with the vehicle you are about to do this to. Because by the time you are done, you could have bought another vehicle
