Replacing a Single Tire

Hey guys,

I put a rock through the tread of one of my less than a year old General Grabber AT/2's and have been told the hole is too big to patch.

My question is, what do I do now? I assume if I replace just the one tire I have to worry about alignment issues. If I replace 2 tires (say both the rears) do I have to worry about using 4wheel drive since the front tires would be slightly smaller than the rear tires? Should I try to get a couple of used tires that match the tire wear of the of the existing ones?

I have now lost faith in the General AT/2's and will be replacing them completely eventually with something name brand, however I want to still use them in the winter time and/or on my other truck.

This is just a guess, but I think you'd be fine just replacing that one damaged tire with a new one.

Now I think if you replaced the damaged tire with a different sized tire, then......yes, you may very well screw up something in the 4WD system or transmission/transfer case.

It seems like just the difference in the amount of tread alone on the new tire compared to the old ones would not hurt anything.

Everyone I've been talking to has echo'd that, I also have the name of a Tire specialist in town who will be the final judge. I'm pondering getting a set so I can have a matching spare.

I do need to buy another set of tires, but I just didn't want to do it yet!

If the 3 tires are not worn down below 50% tread you have nothing to worry about.

awesome, thanks. I dropped the tire off for possible retreading today. If they can repair, it'll cost 35$, if they can't then it's junk and I don't get charged.

Only bad thing is I have to wait 2 weeks before it'll be back, I'm running the spare in the mean time.
