Replacing all interior panels

Are all of the interior panels and roof liner the same for all years across the 4 gens?

I have an 04 Limited that "needs" almost all the interior panels and roof liner replaced. The previous owner did a bit of hauling plus had a couple of dogs and it shows.

I have found a salvage yard nearby that has a few 4th gen 4runners but some of them are later years. I know some panels are slightly different in the back if there is a third row or not but even those are the same regardless of year.

I don't want to buy a bunch of panels from the 05 or 08 then find out they aren't compatible. In thinking more about this, I guess another option is that I can remove all of them from my vehicle then compare them onsite before I buy but I'd rather not deal with that since I don't have a lot of extra time at the moment to remove them.

Anyhow, thanks for the help.

Almost 100 percent positive that everything is the same except for a few things. As you mentioned if it has 3 rows that will have different rear panels. Otherwise the only difference is that for the 03-05 the dash is slightly different than the 06-09 and the instrument cluster bezel is also slightly different. The only other difference is that some models had a grey interior while others had tan. Otherwise everything else will fit the same.

Great. That is what I was hoping to hear. Thanks.

Now, we'll see how much the junkyard is going to want for all of them. :)

There is another major difference, which is obvious, but since you asked, the head liner is different if you do or don't have a sunroof, also I believe it's different if you have the DVD player where the front dome light is, it seems I remember someone posting that they removed their broken DVD player and installed a regular dome light and there was a big cutout in the head liner there that the dome light didn't cover and he made a metal trim plate to cover the cutout.

Just remembered there is a different if you have the JBL radio system, the rear passenger's side panel has the woofer speaker and also has little tweeters speakers at the top rear corners where a model that doesn't have the JBL has little mirrors.

Good points. I do have the sunroof. Hopefully I would catch that the new roof liner does not have one.....but you never know sometimes. :)

It's mostly straight swaps for interior stuff. Door panels swap. Rear quarters will swap, with the exceptions as noted. There is also some with the little pockets on the cargo floor where as some had nothing. I actually swapped my truck over to have those pockets for when I go shooting an stuff they work great.

You will run into challenges with electrical connections on certain pieces like seats of course. Anything with bolt holes or plastic plugs is a swap in my experience.

Another headliner difference; I think 03-04 had a single overhead hook in the cargo compartment. 05-09 have a dual hook. So headliner may mount differently, or be incompatible.

If you swap out the center console radio bezel piece, there is a difference between the JBL and non JBL ones, so make sure it’s the same size as yours. Should only be a problem for non-nav JBL radio models.

All other panels should be the same. The rear wheel panels will have slightly different trim based on DD shelf or not, but I believe those small trim pieces can be easily swapped.
