I have a 99 4runner and replaced the bulbs on my climate control sensor. Really a breeze, bought all 4 bulbs at dealer (29.00) however the actually work was simple. Curious to see what the dealer would charge, its a matter of starting at the cup holder and carefully, but firmly, pulling out the sections. I always wondered how you got to the components, now i know.

Thank you much for the link with awesome pictures and woman friendly instructions! I did this myself today after purchasing the clear bulbs online. The display is now visible in daytime & nighttime.I can see the time again! Very simple to do. It took me about 10 minutes.

I've had burnt out lcd bulbs for a while and recently the center joypad back light went out. I don't know what brand the stealership sells but I've identified replacement bulbs and they work fine.
The smaller bulb is an Eiko 8111
The larger bulb is an Eiko 8640, 14Vdc - real dim backlight
or an Eiko 8610, 6.3 Vdc - nice and bright backlight
Each bulb cost about $0.50 each with minimum order of 10, add $5-6 for standard shipping and you have enough bulbs, with extras, to re-lamp your entire climate control and lcd display. With how many bulbs? 8? at $5-6 each from the stealership, I'll pay $15.ish any day over $40+

Aaand it looks like i need a skinny green bulb too!
You can actually take the bulb out of the holder and just replace the bulb. You can use 12V Microlamps from Radio shack (Model: 272-1092), two bulbs for $2.

Im not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but I had a few questions regarding the process, mainly about the actual labeling on the cluster controls (for the different blower configurations, temp level, AC/Defrost controls). Is this stuff all supposed to be illuminated with the lights on? I am able to get the orange arrow indicators on when I press something, but the labels themselves arent coming on. Ive switched every bulb and still nothing. Is this a fuse thing? I was able to get my display fully illuminated with the bulb replacement, but no labels still...

My lcd bulbs weren't lighting up so I changed them, still not lighting up. Plot twist: the bulbs I extracted still looked good and everything else on the climate control works-- except these two bulbs. Any ideas?

Had the same problem -- some of my button lights were out completely, and the backlight of the LED would alternate between flickering and being very weak on one side.
Went to the Toyota dealership today. They charged me a little less than $4 per bulb, and there were 9 of them to replace (on the unit for my 2008 Limited). 5 minutes later they were installed and the problem totally vanished.
Really easy install. Just make sure you use a thin flathead screwdriver. (A couple of the bulbs on my V8 model used a small philips, but most were flathead).

I had screwdrivers small enough at home, but didn't feel much like taking the risk that the dealer would give me the wrong bulbs, only to not find out until I got home. So the parts desk clerk who sold them to me, I made him grab his screwdriver and we did it on the spot. They didn't mind and didn't charge for it.

Mine required two different kinds of screwdrivers too. Not all the screws were flat heads, oddly enough.
In any event, they were pretty easy to do. A simple quarter-turn was usually enough, but some of them required turning it upside down and shaking it out of the deep crevices they sit in.

You guys are the best.....noticed last night my 'new to me' 06 T4R had a bulb going out on the climate control panel and wondered how I was going to deal with this.....the link in the first post makes it look very easy, so easy that an idiot like me should be able to do this....lol....thanks!!
It is very easy...definitely give it a try. It's the first thing I did on my new-to-me '07 T4R that I got a couple of months ago. This YouTube video is also a good guide, in addition to the link on the first post.

I believe it's all Neo3/Neo4 wedge type led bulbs. Just match up the size of the bases.
I ordered some Ebay cheapo's. Will post back when I get them.

There's an awesome guy here in the forums who will do a replacement of ALL the lights on your dashboard from the speedometer to all the climate controls, etc.. He posted some photos and does good work. I'm sorry, I don't remember his username or name off the top of my head -- I vaguely recall he has "2000" somewhere in his username but could be wrong. I know he's based in Colorado because I'm planning to haul my truck out there on a drive one of these days just so I can get rid of the orange

These neo bulbs are MUCH cheaper than at the dealer.
I replaced some from the dealer and was quoted something like $3+ dollars each.
When I went to the dealer the parts guy wanted almost $7 each.
Told him the quoted price and they honored it, but will not be buying from dealer again.
