replacing bumper ends?

I'll preface this with the fact that I haven't really looked at how the bumper is put together yet but the ends are starting to rust through and I found that I could replace just the ends - has anyone ever tried it? Is it fairly easy?
1994 SR5
There are three pieces on the bumper, left hand cap, right hand cap, and the main rear bumper. I think there are 3 bolts that are holding the bumper to the car, but in order to remove I'm pretty sure you need to remove the mud flaps, as well as the running boards.
I bought a new LH bumper cap for my 94 off ebay, but before you go running there and buying it. I've had it since probably november live in park city, utah and it is starting to rust. I dont know if its just on the surface or already going through the chrome.
