replacing engine questions

ok, i have know idea what the hell is causing this knocking sound in my 22rec so i am just going to change it. Already started taking mine out, took out the radiator and the starter (i was told it needs to be taken out in order to seperate the tranny) Now i want to disconect the wiring and vacuum, my big question is, do i really have to disconnect every little frikkin wire and vacum hose or could i possibly just remove the whole intake manifoil and leave in the truck as i pull the rest of the engine away. Cause most of the wiring and vacuum crap is all on intake manifold and up. And is their anything else that needs to be removed (apart from other wires) so the rest of the engine can come out.

Actually try to only disconnect the wires that are overlapping the valve cover and unbolt the screws securing the water pipes and the lower plenum keep the two halves of the injector plenum and all of the vacumes and relays intact trust me on this When I did the engine swap on my own I left everything intact and secured to the injector harness and just bungee corded everything to the passenger fenderwell. It saved HOURS of time and guessing. I think there are 3 things bolted to the valve cover and the smog assembly that is attached to the head on the intake side as well. Also disconnect the fuel filter and oil pressure sending unit from the block as well. Depending on your truck I found out that my 88 4runner used the V6 motor mounts even though my truck was a 4 cylinder.

oko thanks, does anybody know exaclty how many bolts hold the engine to the tranny, i have the manual one, i just want to make sure i got them all.
