Replacing front shocks

So I’m gonna throw the 5100s on the front. I’d like to lift it a couple inches as well , nothing crazy. Maybe like 2 inches. Could someone tell me what parts I need to order besides the shocks, and the cheapest route to go. Or if there’s any all in one packages that are cost friendly. It has xreas as well but looking to get rid of it. Thanks. Btw it’s 2003 v8 limited with 102k on it. Also, for what it’s worth a few years ago the rear air bags blew out and they were replaced with a strut master coil conversion kit. I know probably not the best but it is what it is.

You're probably aware of this, but in case you aren't: if you're replacing the front shocks, you'll need to do the rears at the same time since you have XREAS.

Please excuse my ignorance, but wasn’t that what was already replaced when the airbags blew out a few years back? The receipt says strut master rear coil conversion kit. No longer has air suspension.

XREAS and RAS are not the same. RAS is the airbag, now a coil. XREAS is the strut combination on your vehicle that is linked together hydraulically. That being said, if you have XREAS you can't just change your front struts and head down the road. Once you open it up, you have to remove all of it and put in actual struts. If a mechanic already installed struts in the back, my guess is he was ignorant to the xreas system and let you off the lot with flat front struts by default. Some pics would help us determine what was actually done

Ok. I understand now. I rarely drive the 4Runner, it’s mostly for the beach in the summer and occasiona snow. But I love the v8 motor and the real suv factor, not the things being built on car chassis now. Anyways, so I’d have to order front and rear 5100’s. Anything else? And should I just use the original springs in the front. I’m looking to raise it and level it. Not a huge lift. Just look a little beefier and give it a little more ground clearance. Staying on a tight budget what do you guys recommend. Thanks in advance.

You would need new strut perch tops since the ones in your XREAS struts are trash, I would say yes to new springs, go Moog if you are in a budget, either r4unner or FJ springs would be an upgrade over current. As long as the rest of the rubber bushings and ball joints are ok, you should be good

Check your local Craigslist or equivalent and look for someone selling some springs, possibly FJ or similar.

I did the strutmaster kit to eliminate the xreas stuff that failed. It rides great with stock height suspension. Mine is for street use only maybe some towing. Its a v8 4x4 V8 w ith 94k miles so lots of life left. My mechanic said it was an easy install.
