REplacing fuel pump this weekend, any must haves??

With all the expertise here figured I would ask, the 4runner is down at the hunting club so I want to make sure I have everything I need. I have my basic tools with me. I also know to label the lines coming to the pump to make it easier to put back together. Also got some good penetrating oil to apply before I start on the screws that hold the pump in. Anything that you guys think will make my life easier please let me know.

I would open that access hatch and hit every fastener you can find with PB Blast at least a day before starting.

Thats the plan! Gonna soak them down tonight and again in the AM and start working on it around lunch!

Isn't the access hatch to get to the fuel gauge sender, not the pump ?

You have to drop the tank to get to the pump though.

It goes without saying, but I'm going to say it anyway....

Have a fire extinguisher close by - two would be better.

Exactly.

I don't know why they didn't add an access panel for the fuel pump in 1985.

How about some of those real long matches, so you can see way down into the tank after you get the pump out?

Here's a couple thoughts from my experience:
1) consider replacing the regulator, filter, and EFI relay as well
2) craftsman flare wrench set
3) floor jack (raise and lower tank)
4) seals at top of tank(get factory units, upgraded and inexpensive)
5) POR15 for rust, or equivalent
Maybe, I'll think of more later. Pic, is of the vent door with line and harness that needs to be disconnected.

Here's a pic with the tank dropped and cleaned.

Mark the hoses when your removing them.

Here is a pic of the fuel pressure regulator replaced. Warning, I needed to pull the intake.

I'm doing the same thing on Monday - replacing the Fuel Pressure Regulator, and the Dash Pot. While the intake is off I'll also replace the spark plugs. With the intake off it will make the job a lot easier.

Also - time for a new PCV valve - so much to do - so little money.

Mine does have a access hatch to the fuel pump. Got it done and was pleased to see the inside of the tank was pretty clean. Looked like original pump. I did replace the seal on the tank, go it cranked after a few tried and it is running the best it has since I got it.
