Replacing lights behind A/C controls

i was wondering if anyone has had to replace the instrument cluster lights that are behind the a/c controls, temp. control, etc. They have stopped working and im sure its probably becasue they burned out. Anyone with some help would be greatly appreciated. its my first post so lets see how this forum is javascript:smilie(':')

I replaced some in my '99 LTD with auto temp.
I'm attaching pdf files with diagram of AC control and bulb locations. I think I can only attach one file so I'll post more replies with more files.
Bulbs are REAL small and about $5.00 each from dealer.
On my auto temp, there are two different size bulbs behind the panel, four bulbs total.
Also, you'll have to unplug the switches on the center cover to pull it away. I only pulled the upper center cover out and away from the dash, not the shift cover. I had enough room to reach in and remove the a/c control this way.

I realize this is a very old thread, but it was very helpful to me in replacing the lights so I can see the A/C cluster at night. To add a bit of information to the thread...

The part numbers are:
81850-35040
81850-35050

You need 2 of each. I only had 3 that were burned out, but went ahead and replaced them all while I was in there.

Should be good for another 10 years:hungry:

We have a '02 Sport with the 3 dial setup, which we've owned for about a year now. The center dial, which is the temp control dial, has never lit up at night. Should this dial light up too?

I couldn't imagine why it shouldn't light up. Go to the dealer and ask for a diagram. It will either show a bulb or not show a bulb. I am going to say with 95% certainty that it should light up.

Did this last night. Super easy and took about 20 minutes from the time I pulled the dash to the time I popped it all back in place.

I highly recommend doing this if your bulbs are burnt out. If for no other reason than safety while driving at night. Cheap and easy fix.

The bulbs were 7.13 each from the dealer, but I ordered them from toyotapartsale.com (same dealership) and they were 5.13 each. Saved 9 bucks!

Is your control the auto type or the 3 dial type? My Center temp dial is dark at night since we bought it last year. I'd assume that it should light up too, but haven't been able to confirm 100 percent before I go to the expense and trouble of tearing into it.

I have the digital controls. Not the 3 dial controls. It should all be lit up.

That's the question I have - every time I see a 'replace lights' thread, it almost ALWAYS concerns the automatic controls.

Are the P/N's the same for the 3-dial controls?

I replaced all the bulbs since I had everything apart but when I put everything back together, all the displays where messed up or not working....???
The led display looked like it was distorted and some of the controls were not working.
Feel like I should have left the lites burnt out. Ive replaced bulbs in the main instrument
cluster without any problems.
Toyota wants $375 for a new a/c control panel. Going to check out some junk yards to see if I can find one.

I bought a '98 Limited yesterday and have the same problem. It has the 2-dial panel. While I had the dash open to look at the stereo wiring with the goal of replacing the POS head unit (no comment so I don't get my blood pressure up again), I took a look at the a/c control to see why I could only see half of it at night and found the bulbs. For this version of the control there are two bulbs, one on the left and one on the right. They are, I'm pretty sure, a #37, available for around $6 for a 2-pack at AutoZone. The Nissan pickup I also have uses a #74 for the same thing.
