Replacing mirrorglass in drivers side rearview mirror

Have a 1999 and the mirror cracked the other morning when i had the heat turned on,,,have another drivers side rearview mirror but it is a tan housing and mine on the runner are black,,wondering if just the mirror can be changed or do i have to paint the housing?

The mirror is attached (w/sticky dble-side tape) to a plastic bracket which then snaps into the housing. You s/b able to pry the bracket off the housing, rest a soft cloth or something similar against the housing so as not to scratch it in the process. Then snap your other mirror/bracket back on. Luck!

Heating with a hair dryer will releave the adhesive to make it easier to pop out.

Try this:
There is a big phillips screw under the mirror (slide under the mirror and you can see it through the hole)

Remove it and tilt the mirror mechanism to come out from the top holding tabs.
The mirror is attached to a plastic base and it has a metal hook that goes through the mirror motor mechanism and locked in by a metal clip.

Pulls the metal clip to get the cracked mirror and the plastic base out. Now, simply insert your other mirror and the base and put the metal clip back on. You will have to force it a bit to get the mirror plastic base locked into the two motor wheels.
