Replacing radiator next. Question

Oh, you guys still use Toyota Red? It's recommended for the 2nd Gen 4Runners but the Toyota Pink Long-Life is better for 3rd Gens. Lasts longer, still plays nice with aluminum and is cheaper.

You can actually use whatever you want. I know, I know, there's big debates about this but I'm not buying into the hysteria of using only Toyota coolant. From what I understand, Toyota didn't start using Toyota Red Coolant until 1999, so the 96-98 models came with a Prestone style green coolant anyway. When I bought my 2000 4 years ago, it came with Prestone Green and I decided to just keep it like that. I saw no reason to flush the system and start running the Toyota coolant.

The important thing is to renew your coolant on a regular basis. I renew mine every 30,000 miles and I just happened to do it today along with differential gear oils and transfer case gear oil.

The pink and red coolants are compatible.

This is true with the caveat that you have to use the 'Red' schedule, not the longer 'Pink' schedule for changes if they are mixed. They are not the same coolant and are different chemically even though they are compatible.

I also agree that you can use anything you want - just change it at the appropriate time (sooner with the 'standard green' stuff). Don't mix regular green with Red/Pink. I don't like remembering to do coolant changes and I run less than 50/50, so I stick with Red.

Haha, yeah not trying to revive an age-old debate, I just didn't know people used red since it's getting harder to find. The pink is supposed to last 50k miles or 5 years if I remember correctly so it's easy to maintain.

I wonder why the Tacomas were left off the list? Do they have a different radiator or cooling system? Always though 4Runners and Tacomas were pretty much identical in maintenance.

So, there are 2 radiators that are supposed to be OEM?

Part # 16400-75181 and/ or 16410-YZZAJ


Why the price difference? Anyone buy the 16400-75181? Is that the REAL factory radiator that came with our trucks? It is $325.00

EDIT: I ordered the YZZAJ. George at Camelback hooked me up with minimal shipping too.

The Tacomas were US built at that time (as were some Camrys, etc.).
