Replacing Rotors

I apologize if this is something that has been asked and answered, I searched but didn't find anything. I have an 04' T4R - Sport, in the past 2-3 years I have had to have the brake pads (front mostly, but back too) and Rotors replaced numerous times. It's getting a bit ridiculous. I've owned 5 cars in my life time, 3 SUV's, and I've never had to replace Brakes/Rotors on any vehicle like I have on this one.

I know that it varies based on driving style and location, but what would be a "normal" about of time between replaments (in years)? The 4Runner is the main vehicle in the house, so it's driven a lot and I live in the DC Metro area so traffic is HEAVY ALWAYS, so I know those things factor in, but I've lived here all my life and like I said I've just never had to do this before.

My '04 Sport has never needed the rotors changed. Just the pads, one time so far. The rotors are still in great condition.

Mine original pad lasted me 40k miles. I consider myself pretty aggressive on pads. When i lived in NOVA I went thu pads every 25-30k.

As for rotors, I'm using centric rotors and they've been great so far. I also replaced it with OEM pads.

I know the 3rd gen T4R's had OE rotor warping issues but I thought that was resolved in the 4th gens...

Are you replacing the OE rotors with more OE? I found that the Brembo rotors resolved all the issues that I had with my 3rd gen OE rotors. And for all 6 of my Toyotas (close to 1 million miles) and who-knows-how-many domestic vehicles, that was the ONLY vehicle that I ever had to replace the rotors on.

You have an issue. I had 80K miles on OEM rotors and that was driving in the Rockies in the winter and the beach during the summer. Both harsh environments. That was my 06 sport. Have an 08 now and still the original pads/rotors with 33K miles.

More information would be helpful. You say it's driven a lot - how many miles are we talking over the 2-3 years? Also, what brand/type of rotors or pads were swapped in each time? Were the rotors warping? Quality of parts can make all the difference as well as driving style.

Personally, I bought my 2005 SE (big brakes) T4R w/ 55k miles w/ original pads and rotors in place. I drove it on the original equipment until 90k. (I feel like the original pads HAD to have been swapped out before I purchased the vehicle since 90k seems excessive for pad life) at which point I swapped in new NAPA Ultra Premium rotors (front only), NAPA AdaptiveOne pads (front and rear), and new NAPA calipers in the front (front left caliper had the normal inside lower frozen piston).

I'm at 98k now and everything is smooth with great stopping power. If I can get 50-60k miles out of my pads and 70-80k out of the rotors I wouldn't be surprised! As for the calipers...given their notoriety, I'll just be holding my breath....

on my 3rd gen i replaced the stock ones with slotted and drilled rotors, no more warping after, when mine go on my 07 Se i will do the same...
