Replacing Wind Shield???

Hey I went up to the mountain to go snowboarding this week and when I got back to my truck I found about a 10 inch long crack in the windshield. Must have been a chip or something that got water in it on the way up and froze. Anyways I was wondering if there was any problem in replacing wind shields being that the radio antenna is in ther? Is my radio going to suck now? Probably a stupid question. Also do anyone know if I can put 06 toyota glass in as a replacement. I have heard that it is thicker? Thanks

antenna in the windshield? did you have one installed there?

the stock radio antennas aren't built into the windshield, but into the rear side windows..

as for being able to use 2006 glass, not sure..

Antenna in rear side windows

Someone beat me to it bu tthe diversity antenna system is in each rear side window. If you look closely, it appears like a window defroster grid. The radio will select the antenna witht the strongest signal and use it.

As for '06 glass, you would have to ask a dealership service/parts dept for that one. The new glass on the '06 is thicker than previos models to reduce wind noise, probably wouldn't fit but who knows.

O yah I just noticed it. I read somewhere that it was in the glass somewhere and just assumed it was in the front windshield. I guess I will just take what insurance will give me. Thanks

I also went on a 5 day ski trip last week to Mammoth. Along the way, I managed to pickup 4 more chips in the windsheild in addition to the 1 chip that I got in the first month of ownership. Mind you, the car has a total of only 4800 miles right now.

Don't know what it is, but the 4runners windsheild is prone to attracting rocks! Whether design in aerodynamics or position/angle...there is something about the t4r that makes it very susceptible to rock chips.

I would more then bet that this is a known issue to toyota which is why they increased the thickness for 06 for durability and the marketing department spun it off for it's noise benefits.

It would be interesting to make a poll to see what percentage of 4th gen owners have had rock chips/cracks.

Anyone know if a bug shield will help much? Granted rocks won't follow aerodynamics as nicely but anything might help at this point.
