we have an Interstate distributor here. I just go there, and tell them what I have, and get the largest capacity battery they have that fits.

ive been running them for years, and never an issue. they usually run well beyond their rated months.

Batteries

Just for info my previous 4RUNNER was 8 years old when I sold it. It was the original battery from the factory It was a Panasonic. At the time I lived in the very hot Sacramento Valley in California. My wife's car was a Lexus and the battery was dead in 20 months. So I do not put a lot of faith in brands. I go for cold cranking amps and warranty.

Both are made by Johnson Controls. Same as Duralast, Diehard, and Optima.

Johnson Controls, Exide, and I can't remember the other brand make like 95% or lead acid batteries in North America.

Yep , the big 3 and the 3rd is EnerSys who makes the DieHard Platinum's as of a few years ago and the Odyssey Extremes . Sears Holdings Press Releases

How are the Sam's Club batteries, anyone have experience with these? They are Energizer I believe. I'm a Sam's Member instead of Costco and really don't know much about car batteries to start off with.

FWIW I had an Interstate in my Subaru for 7 years (climates of Colorado and Oregon) and it never died. I ended up replacing it because I figured when it finally died, it would probably do so without warning. I have a Costco installed now. My Subaru just started on the first crank with no issues after sitting outside for over a year. YMMV but, I have been very happy with the performance of both batteries, especially at their price point

battery idea

I took them fishing for the first time for a 4 day trip. and only used one of the two batteries.
All day, from 7am to 8pm I used this battery to hold position, to follow a cource or to move the boat. I even used it to troll for about an hour. the single battery lasted all day long and only registered 75% power after a long day with lots of use.

In my own experience with DieHards, it always seemed like the guys at Sears were only too happy to warranty a battery out for replacement. I almost got the sense that doing so was their way of sticking it to The Man. I was always happy to play my part.

I've used mostly Duralast batteries but recently experienced quick failures on two different ones after about a year of service on each, so I've given up on that brand (made by Johnson Controls). Last night I decided to go with a better quality East Penn manufactured battery and found the Legend Professional series at NAPA. They are having a 20% off sale through 11/23 which made the swap even sweeter. Think mine was model 8424F and has 725 cold cranking amps/ 120 minutes reserve capacity. Online sources say some Die-Hards are East Penn manufactured, as well as a few others from Advanced Auto Parts and Wal-Mart. Not sure how to tell, but if they have Made in America logos it seems likely.

^^Ditto this!^^ The stupid thing was they always gave you a fresh 4 years on the replacement. I had a 99 T4R (bought new) that I sold last year, The only battery I ever bought was a Diehard Platinum AGM after the OEM battery took a dump.

Then when they dropped the platinum line, the REFUNDED the cost diff dropped a new GOLD in for free.

20 years...and I paid for exactly one battery and got 1/2 price of that refunded to boot. You can't beat that.
